Providing independent information and links to guidelines and tools to help design and construct sustainable buildings.

Eco Design Advisors

This free service is available from eight councils. The advisors provide information about energy and water use and materials on house building projects.

They have access to a large number of specialist design assistance tools, assessment methods and information – all for free.

The service is open to both homeowners and building professionals working on home building projects. If you are an architect, you have the option of gaining 10 CPD credits for a 2 hour visit. You can meet advisors in council offices, or they can make site visits.

The service is currently only available to those living within the eight council areas: North Shore, Auckland, Waitakere, Hamilton, Tauranga/Western Bay of Plenty, Kapiti Coast, Wellington and Queenstown.

It is hoped that the service will expand to cover much of New Zealand by the end of 2008.

The EDA service is an initiative of BRANZ Ltd. For more information go to www.ecodesignadvisor.org.nz
